WHAT IS THE NCT?

The NCT is a compulsory vehicle inspection programme in Ireland. The primary aim of this programme which falls under the directive 2009/40/EC, is to improve road safety and enhance environmental protection by reducing harmful vehicles emissions in Ireland.

The NCT is conducted every 2 years for vehicles younger than 10 years. If your car is older than 10 years it must be brought for an NCT test every year.

The NCT is a check of the basic requirement at the time of the test. It evaluates the parts of the vehicle which are visible and accessible. Passing the NCT test does not mean that you don’t need to keep your car regularly maintained. Even if you pass the NCT, you still need to carry out regular servicing.

Regularly checking and servicing of your car will result in better fuel economy. It will also help to reduce overall repair costs and lower the risk of breakdowns.

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU PASS THE FIRST TIME AROUND?

At Joe Duffy Land Rover we offer a complimentary Pre NCT check-up that will allow us to identify any issues that may arise at the test centre when your car is presented for the test.

We cannot guarantee that you will pass the NCT test at any stage (even after we have checked the car) as the equipment used by ourselves and the test centres can vary, but we will be able to identify any problem areas in time to have them rectified before your test, ensuring a higher first time pass rate. Please note, we do not test for emissions or shocks during our visual check up.

Your PRE - NCT service prior to undergoing the NCT will check for any problems with the car and advise you of anything that needs to be repaired.

Our comprehensive check will take about 1 hour to complete
Our visual check covers: Brake hoses and flex cables, lights, levels, seat belts, warning lights, steering linkages and tyres, brake pads and discs.

 

It is recommended that you ensure everything is repaired before you take the vehicle for the NCT test.
