THE BENEFITS OF BMW ELECTRIC CARS.
EMISSION-FREE WHEN DRIVING.
This means you can reduce your CO2 emissions and noise levels in town, and at the same time set an example of environmentally-conscious mobility.
CHARGING MADE EASY.
Use your own home charger to charge your electric car conveniently from the comfort of your own home. Charge it overnight to start the day with a charged battery. The benefits of having your own home charger: you save time and your electric car charges reliably at home.
LOW RUNNING COSTS.
The ongoing costs of an electric car are generally lower compared to a combustion engine car, since they have fewer consumable parts, like spark plugs, oil filters or an exhaust system.
ELECTRIC DRIVE TECHNOLOGY.
ELECTRIC CAR RANGE
The range of an electric car provides versatility for everyday driving. BMW electric cars have high battery capacities, thanks to the use of innovative technologies. Clever technologies on board further optimise the car's range. Charge-optimised routes automatically take over charge planning on longer journeys.
ARRIVE RELAXED AT YOUR DESTINATION.
CHARGING OF YOUR ELECTRIC CAR.
Electric cars and plug-in hybrids herald a new kind of mobility that is both efficient and convenient. So now you can drive care free every day and on longer trips, thanks to flexible charging options and innovative charging technologies, on the go or conveniently at home, charging solutions are available to suit your lifestyle.
HOW TO CHARGE YOUR ELECTRIC CAR.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
A BEV (battery electric vehicles) drives exclusively on electricity, driven by an electric motor. It therefore doesn't have a combustion engine to drive the vehicle. The electrical energy is stored in a high-voltage battery. Alongside other factors[1] it is mainly its capacity that determines the range of the e-car, in other words, the distance that it can cover with one battery charge. An electric car is considerably more efficient than vehicles with combustion engines, among other things because the drive motor feeds the brake energy back to the battery, a process called recuperation. In addition, electric cars drive emission-free on shorter trips or around town. This is a significant difference from combustion engines.
Purely electric cars are ideal for users who can charge their electric cars battery at work or at home. At the same time, the public charging infrastructure is expanding at a rapid pace. New charging stations are therefore appearing frequently in urban areas and along motorways. There are high-power charging stations for ultra-fast charging on longer journeys, such as the charging stations operated by our partner IONITY in Europe. Long journeys are set to become ever simpler.
*The number of IONITY stations is currently limited in the IE and not available in Northern Ireland. Other manufacturer charger stations available.
We already offer a range of electric cars to suit your lifestyle - from elegant saloons to high-performance SUVs.
An electric car provides a completely new and emotional driving experience. You'll experience amazing electric dynamics, thanks to maximum torque from a standing start with seamless acceleration.
At the same time, the almost silent electric motor delivers a new and relaxed driving experience. A battery electric vehicle is also emission-free when driven on shorter trips or around town.
Temperature is a key external factor that affects a battery's performance and capacity. This is no doubt a factor you may have experienced with your mobile phone: its capacity is also limited in very cold temperatures. It's the same with your vehicle. The influence of temperature is minimised by optimised operating strategies. And did you know that the battery capacity also indicates your possible available range? Apart from the temperature, the range is largely affected by your personal driving style, and also by energy consumption factors, such as the air conditioning, trailer load, luggage, etc. By far the most important factor in terms of driving style is your chosen motorway speed. If you need to charge on the go, your BMW electric vehicle will be preconditioned when you enter a DC charging station[2] as your destination. This means that the high-voltage battery will be adjusted to the optimum operating temperature when you reach your destination, which will increase its charging capability and shorten the charging time. , which will increase its charging capability and shorten the charging time.
If you need to park your vehicles for a long time, for example, when away on holiday, there are different factors than can have a positive effect on the battery: Ensure your car is charged between 30 and 50% and park your car in a cool place or in the shade in summer, and in a garage in winter. Do not leave your vehicle plugged in to charge for longer stationary periods.
Electric cars work by receiving energy from the battery, which is converted into power by an electric motor. This power is used to drive the wheels. An electric motor generates more torque, and eliminates the need for a traditional transmission and so the power goes straight to the wheels for instant acceleration.
Make use of the Range Overview above to compare BMW electric cars.
Electric cars do not have a gearbox or clutch, as they use motors instead of engines.
As electricity is not a fuel it has no scale charge, drivers of 100% electric cars are exempt from fuel benefit tax.
You can tow with an electric car, please visit the BMW Configurator to discover if your preferred BMW model has the option of a Towbar available.
Yes, after four years of owning any new BMW vehicle you should book in for an NCT test. Following that, you will be required to book in an NCT every two years for vehicles younger than ten years. Vehicles that are over ten years old need to be tested annually.
